Ed and Sandy find more and more
Foreign countries to explore
Without the many anxieties
That bugged the sea-faring Portuguese—
Who sailed despite thinking that
The earth on which they lived was flat,
That oceans were a kind of ledge
On which they might sail off the edge.
When thinking that it was best
To journey East by sailing West
Magellan tempted many fates
And found himself in ‘Dire Straits’.
Judged from the buckling of their knees
Ed and Sandy were under seven seas
Spending far too many Escudo
On red red wine in old Oporto.
(If the plural is Escudos they didn’t get tipsy until Obidos)
