Isn’t it a dreadful pity—
Bike lanes in and round our city
Reduce in width the carriage-way
It’s now almost illegally narrow
(about the size of a large wheelbarrow)
And no bikes use the bike lanes anyway.
We are getting most annoyed
The Engineers that were employed
didn’t seem to have a clue
They didn’t even think it through!
Cars and trucks and mini buses
Oversize vehicles carrying trusses
didn’t come into their view!
Couriers and postal mailers
Cattle trucks and semi trailers
Petrol, Fonterra, and mini tankers
Limos carrying Corporate Bankers
What are they supposed to do
That is all we’re asking you
Now Napier on the other hand
Builds lovely paths on vacant land
Runners, walkers, serious hikers
Tourists, bikes, tiny trikers—
Enjoy the paths, love the sea
A worthwhile project, all agree.
AND
Hastings folks come every day
to walk or ride beside the Bay.
