A Sea Shanty

Spencer had a parrot; bought I don't know where,
But he got it from a sailor with an eyepatch and long hair –
Who also had a wooden leg and if you cared to look,
He'd lost an arm and gained instead a lovely iron hook.
So away hey and up she rises,
Up comes she,
Up comes the anchor from the wild blue sea.
The parrot swore so horribly it made poor Spencer flinch
“I'll teach you manners, sir,” said he, “I'll tie you to a winch.”
A shame the swear wheel isn't here not back upon the farm.
The capstan now will have to do to get you nice and calm.
So away hey and up she rises,
Up comes she,
Up comes the anchor from the wild blue sea.
As Spencer further stated, swearing's fine upon the sea
But when you have to go on land you have to be P.C.
The parrot sadly said “Aye aye,” and gave little sigh,
“Aye aye,” he said again, and sadly “piped his eye”.
So away hey and up she rises
Up comes she,
Up comes the anchor from the wild blue sea.
But Spencer didn't see the wink behind the wing
As they stepped upon the sand,
And the parrot muttered from his shoulder seat.
“I'll show them all a P.C thing, it will be simply grand.”
So away hey and up she rises,
Up comes she
Up comes the anchor from the bottom of the wild blue sea.
In France when Spencer tried to be so charmingly polie
As he bowed to say Bonjour, he got an awful fright
That dreadful bird whispered wickedly “OUI OUI, Mam'selle,” and — oooh la la —
Then he very rudely sniggered — ha ha hah.
So way hey and up she rises
Up comes she
Up comes the anchor from the wild blue sea.
The girls speak Spanish in the Canary Isles
But whenever Spencer tried to speak
The words they heard from that evil bird
Were “Ole señorita, OLE!” And other dreadful cheek.
So away hey and up she rises
Up comes she
Up comes the anchor from the wild blue sea.
But when a lovely damask cheeked English rose was treated
To a wolf whistle and then greeted
By a very raucous cockney call
“EEEH bah gum, come have some rum
Come knees up lass, and all”
Spencer sold him.
So away hey away.
