My mother gave me wise advice
She said things once, she said them twice,
But in my silly headstrong youth,
I would not harken to the truth,
I did not listen.

In spite of many an overture,
There was only one thing sure,
I went my way as I always did,
To church, or work to earn a quid
I did not listen.

Tried A.O.G, tried P.K's to no avail,
My own attempts were bound to fail.
When finally there comes a smash,
Will I remember that, alas,
I did not listen?

I think now of my only son,
My little, special, darling one,
Will he learn from a sad...
And very much wiser Dad ...
And listen?
