“Ode to the Elder Years
(part the first)”

Ma and pa Kettle, usually in such fine fettle
both had bad trips (I thought they said thrips)
garlic spray said I, but my oh my

Ma upended a pot of curry so hot
when she landed damn near on her head
pa missed the grass when landing on his ass
but was squashed by an oven instead

The little sketches absolutely make it. The labelled “curry” spill and the airborne oven are such classic dry visual punchlines. It feels like someone who can’t help turning everyday chaos into a cartoon scene.
