In Sicily in other days
(As was sung in Ancient Lays)
A King thought they had done him brown
With baser metals in his crown
He sent for a certain well known sage
Famous in an earlier age.
Archimedes scratched his Grecian head
Worried about it in his bed
‘How to prove it, that’s the rub.’
Then, shouting ‘Eureka!’ from his tub.
‘Immersed in water, that will show
The amount of gold is very low.’
They dunked a bar of purest gold
And then the crown—the scam was told.
Moral — Have a handy tub of water
to check your change in Syracuse.
